Words of Inspiration from Union History

"And who but an enemy of organized labor would advocate the enactment of a law that so much as squints at depriving organized labor of the only weapon it possesses of maintaining its rights against those whose policy is oppression?"
Eugene Debs, commenting on the Espionage Act of 1917, curtailing free speech, which had the ousting labor leaders through prosecution for voicing opposition to U.S. involvement in the World War, 1917

Where is PASS Region II?

From the PASS Constitution (Article 3 Section 9. PASS Regions):

          Region II:

"All Airway Facilities members in the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kentucky, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, the territory of the Canal Zone, the territory of Puerto Rico, and the territory of the Virgin Islands and all facilities in Central and South America. "

What is PASS?

The Professional Aviation Safety Specialists (PASS) is the union that represents more than 11,000 employees of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Department of Defense (DoD). Our members are dedicated to certifying the safety and the efficiency of the National Airspace System (NAS); maintaining and supporting this nation’s air traffic control system with the utmost professionalism; and ensuring the integrity, the reliability, and the safety of the commercial and general aviation industries. Whenever you fly, the work our members do behind the scenes helps you get there safely.

Who Are PASS Members?

Our members include FAA and DoD Systems Specialists, Aviation Safety Inspectors and safety support staff, along with Flight Inspection Pilots, Procedures Development Specialists, Airborne Technicians, and aircraft maintenance and staff support from the FAA’s Office of Aviation System Standards and Manufacturing Inspectors and safety support staff from Manufacturing Inspection District Offices.

What Do PASS Members Do?

Systems Specialists: Airway Transportation Systems Specialists (ATSS) install, repair, maintain, operate, and certify the complex systems used in air traffic control and national defense.  They are the only people authorized to certify the operation and safety of FAA systems and equipment. There are nearly 6,000 Systems Specialists who maintain more than 40,000 pieces of equipment at over 6,000 locations.

Aviation Safety Inspectors are responsible for ensuring safety standards by developing, administering and enforcing regulations and standards concerning civil aviation safety.  Some 2,800 inspectors and field support staff achieve their objectives through certification, surveillance, education partnerships with industry and oversight of all private and commercial aircraft, air agencies, air carriers, airmen and repair facilities.  They perform more than 750,000 safety inspections each year.

Manufacturing Inspectors assure safety and quality of aircraft and associated products being manufactured and operated. Manufacturing Inspectors evaluate aircraft and parts suppliers on their capability to maintain quality, and also oversee FAA Manufacturing Designees who conduct new aviation equipment inspections.

Flight Inspection Pilots and Procedure Development Specialists and Airborne Technicians from the Office of Aviation System Standards are responsible for the design, development and flight inspection services for ground and space navigation systems at more than 3,000 airports in the U.S. and numerous airports in 46 other countries. They ensure the integrity of the instrument procedures and airways that make up the NAS
